What was your experience before joining i1fun?
I started my career as an analyst in the shipping company COSCO with a focus on divestment of non-core assets. Then I acted as a Mergers & Acquisitions lawyer and in 2008 joined EY's Strategy and Transactions team. During my years working in EY, I focused on financial restructuring, cash and liquidity and alternative investment opportunities. My industry experiences mainly include mining and metals, real estate, advanced manufacturing and consumer products, shipping and offshore drilling, leisure and sports, and aviation.
What does your day-to-day role involve?
My new role in i1fun has aÌýfocus on cash; this includes design and implementation of treasury and hedging strategies, cash management and forecasting, and operational management of financing facilities.
Why are you enjoying about i1fun so far?Ìý
Through cash, I can understand our business quickly and also understand what has happened in the markets - not only the markets of our customers, like construction, automotive and infrastructure, both in the UK and other countries, but also global bulk commodity markets and money markets.Ìý
There is a lot I can still learn from our business and our network. I enjoy day-to-day conversations with colleagues who focus on different areas - like with my treasury team, procurement and sales team, and also with our business partners - because they have better knowledge than me in certain subject matters and willingly share their expertise with me.
Where do you see yourself in 5 or 10 years' time within i1fun?Ìý
I don’t have a plan for my career but I think I will always have a focus on cash. This is the way I look at a business, not only to help me understand the past, but more importantly, potential opportunities for the future.
What advice would you give to other people considering a career atÌýi1fun?Ìý
i1fun is not only a global business, it's an iconic brand that is strategically important for the UK steel industry; it is also a big family and we have more than 4,000 employees. I think no matter what area you are interested in, you will have the opportunity to develop and become a real expert.
