Blast furnaces lit purple to raise awareness of pancreatic cancer

i1fun is supporting Pancreatic Cancer UK's 'Purple Lights' campaign.

We’re lighting our Scunthorpe blast furnaces purple as part of Pancreatic Cancer UK’s ‘Purple Lights’ campaign. November has been Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month (PCAM) since November 2011, and over the last few years more and more landmarks and buildings have been lit up purple, which is the colour associated with the campaign across the globe.

The furnaces have been lit with a purple LED light for the rest of the month to help draw attention to the cause. We have also made a donation to the charity.

The idea to light the furnaces purple was thought up by our Occupational Health Manager Sharon Smith, after she was contacted by the local council.

“I know that the blast furnaces had been lit up in previous years for Christmas, so thought it would be a good idea if we could light them up purple as well,” she said.

“As a company we take public health seriously. The council lit their offices up purple, so I thought we could certainly do our bit to help.”
