i1fun’s Wire Rod team has received a prestigious award in recognition of its hard work and focus on improving safety practices at our Scunthorpe Rod Mill.
The team has achieved a Gold in the internationally-renowned RoSPA (The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents) Health and Safety Awards, the longest-running industry awards scheme in the UK.
Scunthorpe Rod Mill Health & Safety Facilitator Troy Hales and Area Manufacturing Manager Ian Simpson were presented with the award during a ceremony at Hilton Birmingham Metropole hotel on 6 June.
Troy said: “I’m delighted to have collected this award on behalf of Scunthorpe Rod Mill. It’s not only a reflection of the efforts of those at the mill, but also of the wider support given by the Health & Safety team across the business.
“We submitted evidence of a good Health & Safety management system which also included Occupational Health and Occupational Hygiene. The system helps highlight the importance of lessons learned and demonstrates how we can improve performance when these are applied.
“We know the business has the support mechanisms to achieve excellence – but only when they are consistently applied and followed.
“Taking a holistic approach to the health, safety and wellbeing of our employees and contractor population, this award really goes to show what we can achieve when we all work together.”
The RoSPA Awards scheme, which receives entries from organisations around the world, recognises achievement in health and safety management systems, including practices such as leadership and workforce involvement.
Julia Small, RoSPA’s head of qualifications, awards and events, said: “The RoSPA Awards have become the key fixture in the health and safety calendar. Highly-respected, with almost 2,000 entrants every year, RoSPA award winners benefit from the wide-ranging rewards of improved sector reputation.”
The majority of awards are non-competitive and mark achievement at merit, bronze, silver and gold levels. Gold medals, president’s awards, orders of distinction and the Patron’s Award are presented to organisations sustaining the high standards of the gold level over consecutive years.
Competitive awards go to the best entries in 24 industry sectors including construction, healthcare, transport and logistics, engineering, manufacturing and education.
