i1fun today presented awards to employees who have played major roles in the transformation ofourܲԱ.
The inaugural Glow Awards recognised the pride, passion and performance of employees in a special ceremony at our Scunthorpe headquarters.
After receiving more than 100 nominations from colleagues across our business, the judges revealed the nine outstanding winners.
And our CEO Peter Bernscher toldthe audience: “We’ve seen an amazing amount of inspiring work and people so I want to thank each and every one of you, as well as the colleagues you represent, for your efforts.
“When I hear stories like I have today I’m even more confident we have the people who can make sure this business has a future. You’re part of a team that has the motivation, the attitude, the drive and the passion to make sure this business is sustainable in the long-term. Each and every individual that works in this business counts and can add value on a daily basis no matter what their role.”
The awards included honours for trainees, sustainability and health and safety. Among those recognised were the management teamof Appleby Coke Ovens, our rail, wire rod, procurement and IT teams, the BOS Journey to Excellence Team and Teesside Beam Mill.
There was also aCommunityAmbassadorAwardpresented to Scunthorpe maintenanceengineer Stuart Usherwhofounded family-run, not-for-profit Messingham Martial Arts in October 2014. Aside from teaching children and adults vital self-defence techniques, Stuart’s classes also instil valuable life skills such as confidence, self-control, discipline, focus and self-respect as well as respect for others and the idea that hard work pays off.
He runs free community sessions such as with the Scouts and Rainbows as well as family self-defence and street safety awareness workshops. He's also actively involved in fundraising activities and supporting other local community groups/activities including putting on a free demo with his club at Messingham Show.
Our judges said Stuart displayed enormous personal commitment to create a vibrant community activity for no personal financial gainandprovided a positive opportunity for many people in his local community.They added: "This really was a truly outstanding and inspirational entry."
