The 3rd saw at i1fun’s £26-million Skinningrove Service Centre is scheduled to be commissioned this month.
With 2 saws already operational, it will be the next major milestone for our Special Profiles investment.
The service centre includes cut-to-length lines, product milling, machining, and warehousing operations, and will enable us to make and process an extended range of value-added profiles for the forklift industry.
Manufacturing Manager Nick Cann said: “The process of making sure special profiles meet the requirements needed involves cutting down the size of 14-metre length bars and accuracy is critical.
“The new saws automate the process so not only are they more precise, but they are three times faster than the saws we previously used.
“The advanced milling and machining capability will mean we can offer profiles with world-leading tolerances of just 0.1mm.”
Our Special Profiles business manufactures 250,000 tonnes of specialist products for a range of sectors, including the material handling market of which the ‘profitable and growing’ market for forklift trucks is a part.
And as this picture from architects Building Design Northern shows, we now have a superb new facility.
