Our CEO Peter Bernscher was pleased to be invited as principal speaker at NASS steel industry dinner.
The National Association of Steel Stockholders (NASS) event was hosted by the National Motorcycle Museum and attended by representatives from across the steel industry and in particular the construction sector.
The annual dinner takes place in October and provides an excellent opportunity for industry professionals to connect and share knowledge and expertise. Peter talked about our aspirations and the opportunities facing the construction industry. He said: “In the UK and France we want to be recognised as the centre of competence for steel-making and the partner of choice.
“This means being in a position to have the breadth of ability to serve a wide range of customers, both directly and to end users. It also means being able to provide the quality and service that each of these customers requires. We want to maximise the value in our supply chains.”
Ben Cunliffe, Commercial Director Construction, added: “The NASS dinner had good attendance of over 300 guests from the UK steel sector, so was a great opportunity to showcase our business and brand.
“As the only UK manufacturer ofstructural sections, we are proud of our strong UK market share and we continue to find ways to enhance our offering to customers.”
Peter discussed market direction. He said: “The UK sections market of 1.3mt has recovered to pre-recession levels and saw a growth of 12% in 2016/17.
“Similarly construction market output is projected to increase by 4% by 2019 vs 2016 and infrastructure is set to grow by 10% to 2019. It’s clear that demand remains positive and there are lots of opportunities out there.”
Ben concluded: “We received a great response at the NASS dinner, and guests were very positive about working with us as a domestic producer at the heart of the industry. We look forward to building stronger futures for the construction industry in the years ahead.”
