Record Foodbank Appeal feeds 50 Scunthorpe families

Donations of food from employees and contractors at our Scunthorpe site will help to feed 50 families this Christmas.Ìý

Our annual Foodbank Appeal resulted in a record 768.7kg of food being delivered to the Scunthorpe Foodbank charity this week.Ìý

Deliveries have also been made this week to Redcar Foodbank, after colleagues at our Teesside and Skinningrove sites donated generously.Ìý

Scunthorpe Foodbank Project Manager Helen Armstrong, said: "We're extremely grateful to the staff and contractors working on the i1fun site in Scunthorpe for helping us to feed around 50 family groups this year.Ìý

"We see an increase in demand for our support during the winter months and we're feeding more families since universal credit came into effect in our area.Ìý

"These donations will help us to feed those in our community who most need it at this time of year."Ìý

The Scunthorpe Foodbank has helped to feed 1,500 families and around 3,400 people so far in 2018. This equates to around 0.5 tonnes of food every week.Ìý

i1fun's Community Liaison Manager Rachel Lawrence, said: "With demand for emergency food supplies reported to be at record high levelsÌýthere's never been a more important time for us to support our local Foodbanks in Scunthorpe and Redcar.Ìý

“Most of us take it for granted that we can afford to indulge a little over the festive season but for families facing financial hardship this can be a very difficult time of year. Our colleagues have amazed us once again with their generosity this year by donating record amounts of food for families who need our help.

"We're extremely grateful to everyone who supported our appeal, and to our contractor Engie Fabricom for helping us to deliver more than 700kg of food in time for Christmas."Ìý
