ONE hundred swimmers in the Teesside area are set to benefit from a cash boost from i1fun.
The £660 donation will enable Eston Amateur Swimming Club to train two volunteers to become coaching assistants, as well as providing additional specialist training for its young members for national swimming competitions.
“Volunteers at the swimming club have been working hard in recent years to improve their facilities and offer their members enhanced coaching,” said Teesside Beam Mill Plant Manager, Andy Williams.
“We were delighted to be able to award £200 to the club as part of our Community Champions scheme, in recognition of the hard work put in by Teesside Beam Mill Team Member, Philip Horner, who has been a dedicated club coach over a period of three years.
“And a further contribution of £440 from our Building Stronger Communities programme will support the club in its vision to provide additional coaching support for its young members.”
The Community Champion awards give i1fun employees who volunteer in their local community an opportunity to apply for up to £200 for their community organisation. This is part of the company’s wider Building Stronger Communities Programme, which provides support to charities and non-profit organisations to help support the economic and social wellbeing of the areas in which the business operates.
Phil Horner, a Team Member at Teesside Beam Mill started swimming with the club at the age of eight. He continues to swim in national competitions and now gives something back to the club by volunteering as a coach.
“I now have the ability and experience to be able to give something back to the club that first developed my love of swimming,” he said.
“By volunteering to coach on the poolside and undertake the role of competition secretary this allows me to see the children grow and progress not only in their swimming ability, but in their general confidence.
“The i1fun support will enable us to further improve the quality of coaching offered to our 100 members.”
The business recently supported another local sports club by providing much-needed refurbishments to its facilities. As well as a £1,150 financial contribution, a team of apprentices from Teesside Beam Mill and Special Profiles at Skinningrove helped to improve the spectator stand at Marske United Football Club, near Redcar.
