65-69 Holmes Road

We’ve supplied 1,500 tonnes of our structural sections to Designated Contractors Limited to help create homes for students.

The National Planning Practice Guidance (NPPG) provides advice to local authorities on assessing housing needs and land availability. It indicates that planning authorities should allow for sufficient student accommodation.

The London Borough of Camden is home to 10 of the 40 Higher Education Institutions across London – the majority of universities being located in the south of the borough. The borough itself contains the largest student population in London with 24,305 domestic and foreign students living in Camden and attending publicly funded higher education institutions.

Recognising the importance of providing an adequate amount of accommodation to support London’s universities, the borough has included student housing as part of its target of 1,120 new homes per year.

Situated on the site of the former Magnet showroom, 65-69 Holmes Road is a mixed-use student accommodation and warehouse development. The project comprises the construction of a part 7, part 3 storey building with 2 basements. The completed building will provide 273 student accommodation units.

Designated Contractors Limited purchased approximately 1,500 tonnes of structural sections from our Dartford Metal Centre for this project. The metal centre supplied universal beams, universal columns, and parallel flange channelsÌý–Ìýall of which were shot blasted, primer painted and mitre cut.

Denis Right, Contracts Manager for Designated Contractors Limited, said: "It was a pleasure to deal with the team at Dartford Metal Centre on this project. They sorted everything from ordering paint right through to supplying the cut steels with the correct markings. The team was available 24/7 to deal with any issues, reply to any questions and provide general help. We will be using i1fun again for future projects without hesitation."
