The Wave

We’ve supplied our sections to help construct Coventry’s £36.7 million water park, The Wave.

Coventry’s new water park, which is due to open in 2019, is being built on the site of Spire House and Christchurch House. It’s designed to reflect the city’s weaving past – with the outside appearing to be wrapped by a swirling ribbon.

The water park, which contains 1,200 tonnes of our steel supplied via Billington Structures, includes rides such as the Navigator – a water park version of a roller coaster, which has both uphill and downhill drops in a tube – and the Speed Slide – a whirlpool style ride featuring a thrilling drop of 20 metres and a plunge pool.

Each ride will be complemented by light and sound features for an immersive ride experience.

Mark Smith, Chief Executive Officer, said: “Billingtons and i1fun have enjoyed a fully collaborative working relationship that spans over twenty years. Our systems are integrated to facilitate transfer of live production information to aid efficient steel ordering and delivery. Exceptional quality and service ensures both businesses remain competitive in our respective markets.”

Councillor Kamran Caan, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Sport, said: “I’m sure many of our residents will be as excited as I am to see the next phase of the water park take shape, with what’s arguably the most important part – the slides!

“The water park will be the very best in the region – offering thrill seekers, young children and families a fun-filled few hours. And it’ll be open during our year as City of Sport – giving us 2 reasons to celebrate.”

Alongside the water park, there will also be a 25-metre swimming pool, 120-station gym, squash courts, dance studio and day spa. The next stage in the build involves creating the pool and beginning the external cladding. Opening is set for spring 2019.
