UKRRIN Rail Research Activity

As founder members of the UK Rail Research Innovation Network (), we're working with partners at the University of Sheffield on an ambitious programme of rail-related research activity, supported by Research England.Ìý

Research students can regularly be seen working atÌýourÌýR&D facilityÌýon the Advanced Manufacturing Park in Rotherham, making use of jointly developed bespoke rail research equipment. Similarly,Ìýour employees whoÌýhold visiting research positions at the university work alongside students and staff at their world-class research facilities.

We currently have sponsored students working on:

Last year, our researchers presented work on high-speed optical monitoring of rail/wheel twin-disc tests at the World Congress on Rail Research in Birmingham, and on rail steel damage characterisation at the Contact Mechanics conference in Melbourne, Australia, as well as a prize-winning poster presentation at the International Student Conference in Metallic Materials.
